Dear Family and Friends,

Since the accident we wondered why us, but knew we had to stop asking why and just fight. About two years ago, December 2008, was the worst day of our lives. We, like most, didn’t know what a spinal cord injury really was. These last two years have been a huge journey, one given to us. When Alfred broke his neck on our honeymoon we knew it was going to take a lot of hard work and lots of patience. Believing anything is possible. But we also knew we couldn’t do this alone.

Someone told us this injury is a team sport, HE IS SO RIGHT. Alfred and I have been through lots of tears and laughs. Probably more tears, but at the end of the day we have each other. I sat down one day and went back to notes and emails, and started reading everything from day one when Alfred had the accident. Sometimes we forget how worried we’ve been in the past, and don’t appreciate the present. I always say I had to grow up fast, but from then till now, life has really been an interesting adventure.

With the help of our family, friends, and community, we raised enough money to go San Diego and attend Project Walk. Project Walk is an intense exercise-based program to help people that suffer a spinal cord injury. This place is amazing! We are so blessed to have found Project Walk. Alfred attends Project Walk 4 times a week for a total of 10 hours a week. The cost of Project Walk is $105.00 an hour. Health care does not pay for these services.

Alfred has made some remarkable gains in the last 10 months. We have regained our independence. We are on our own again, with a place we can call home! He is regaining strength in his arms and upper body. He is able to transfers with minimal assistance. He can sit at the end of a table with great posture.

We still have a long road ahead of us, and we need continued help from the community. We would like to stay another 10 months and will be hosting fundraisers.

The next fundraiser will be Zumba for a Cause. It will be Saturday May 21, at:

  1. Keep your faith. "GOD IS GOOD". Like you said," Is been a difficult journey", but one day the miracle will happen, and both of you will walk to the honeymoon you never had. Thank you for all that you do, and for the LOVE that you have for our son. Like we always tell you.
"YOU"RE OUR ANGEL". You're always every minute in our prayers. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH.
